DAZZLING dynamo Dolly Parton has opened up about nips, tucks, trollops and twerking goddaughters during a media call in Melbourne today.
Superstar Parton, 68, warmed up the stage for her concert at Rod Laver Arena tonight with self-deprecating humour about plastic surgery, marriage and the prostitute who inspired her look.
Parton explained: “There was a lady in our home town … and she was the town tramp, or trollop or hooker.
“I guess she was (a prostitute) because she would get in a car with people and ride off for a while, then come back and walk the streets again. But she was absolutely beautiful.
“She wore her clothes tight like I do now, her hair all blonde, nails and high-heel shoes.”
“I thought she was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. Every time I would say that, how beautiful she was, somebody would always say: ‘Well, she ain’t nothing but trash.’
“But I would think in my mind: ‘That’s what I’m gonna be when I grow up.’”
Parton, one of 12 siblings raised in a poor family in the Tennessee mountains, grew up to be a country music legend with global hits including 9 To 5, Joelene and Here You Come Again.
The diminutive singer-songwriter said she had worked hard to stay in the game — with a few surgical enhancements.
“Well, I work real hard on may appearance. Music’s a natural,” Dolly said.
“It does take a lot of money to look this cheap. I think of myself as a show dog or show horse.
“If I see something sagging, dragging and bagging, I’ll get it nip, tucked, sucked or plucked. Whatever it takes,” she smiled.
“I’ll never graduate from collagen.”
But she hopes her goddaughter Miley Cyrus gets past recent controversies to have a meaningful career.
“Miley is a smart girl and very talented girl,” Parton said. “I’m very proud to be her honorary fairy godmother. I’ve known her since she was born.
Asked if she had words of wisdom for Miley, Dolly answered: “I don’t try to give people advice. If they want information, I’ll tell them what I know.
“I think everyone has their own road to walk, their own things to do.
“Hopefully, she’s going to land on her feet real well.
“She’s got the talent, I just hope she makes the right choices over the years.”
Meanwhile, Parton picked the right man to marry in 1966.
Dolly and Carl Dean will celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary in May.
They plan to remarry at their 50-year milestone.
“The secret to a long marriage is to stay gone,” Parton said. “I’m in Australia, he’s in the United States.
“We’re best buddies. He likes staying at home, I like to travel. We’re very compatible.”
Dolly dismissed US reports that claim she is having an affair with her assistant, Judy Ogle, who is touring with Parton in Australia.
“People come up with these bizarre, crazy stories,” Dolly chuckled. “But I’d hate for them to tell the truth because that might really ruin me.”
Dolly Parton performs at Rod Laver Arena on February 11 and 12.
